Live Music is Better
The Barking Spider Tavern has been providing live music nightly, free of charge, since 1986. We book local and touring acts of myriad genres from Rhythm & Blues to Bluegrass, American Roots, Folk, Alternative, Singer/Songwriter, Jazz, straight up Rock & Roll and Reggae. Check the performance schedule to see who is playing tonight, then come down for the show.
Up and coming musicians enjoy playing at our Open Mic Nights, held on the first and fourth Tuesdays of the month. Seasoned musicians interested in playing the Spider should read our musicians page to learn about getting booked.
Cozy Spaces Inside and Out
Our main Listening Room provides an intimate space for audiences who want to sit down and relax while they see, hear and chat with the musicians…yet when the joint is jumping, folks find room to dance. Clad in wood panels lined, with local art, this room is also a great place to gather with friends, classmates or colleagues in the afternoon or after work. When it’s cold outside come early to grab a seat by the fireplace. It’s the perfect spot to warm up after being out in the snow.
The Game Room is a bit rustic, but it’s a good place to get away and gab if things get crowded out front. If you’re tired of playing Angry Birds or Minecraft on your smart phone, you may enjoy playing darts, a board game or foosball.
When the weather warms, it’s time to sit outside at our picnic tables.
The front Patio gives you a good view of who’s coming and going, while the back Beer Garden offers a quieter space to hang out amongst the greenery.
Quenching your Thirst
The Spider offers a selection of more that 30 beers, select wines and cold and hot non-alcoholic beverages. Whether you prefer an über hoppy ale or a sweet tangy lambic there should be something here to suit your palate. Explore our menu to see what’s currently on offer.
Live People are Better
By that we mean live and in person. (We hold no grudges against the dead, or even the undead, for that matter.)
Given how often we communicate via e-mail, Twitter, Skype or Facebook, it’s nice to have a comfortable place to gather with friends and chat in person. The Spider’s casual atmosphere makes it the perfect place to meet, whether for a quiet tête-à-tête or for a group get together.
The Spider is also a great place to make new friends. We tend to attract warm, open-minded people—from a variety of cultures—with myriad interests and the curiosity to learn more. It’s not unusual to find a science-oriented PhD gabbing about literature or art with a carpenter while nearby an art history graduate student discusses science with a retiree.
Whether they meet when sitting at adjacent bar stools or sharing a picnic table, strangers soon become friends and come back to meet again.
