Barking Spider Debuts Monthly Songwriters' Night

On Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, the Barking Spider Tavern in Cleveland will debut it's new "Songwriters' Night", a monthly event to be held on the first Tuesday of every month. Each songwriters' night will consist of two basic elements - an open mic for original music acts (songs and/or instrumentals) and a one hour paid "feature set" by some deserving original act that's new to the "Spider" stage. (For the time being, the feature spots will be reserved for acts that haven't yet headlined their own nights at the "Spider".)
All styles of original music are welcome at the songwriters' nights. The only restriction is that acts must limit their equipment to what can be set up in 5 minutes or less. A sound system and piano will be provided. Sign-up time for the open mic will be 7:30PM. The music will run from 8PM 'til 12:30AM.
Our feature act for Jan. 4th will be Tim Wallace, a songwriter who's greatly admired within the local folk scene. The feature spot is scheduled for 10PM 'til 11PM.
The Barking Spider Songwriters' Night will be hosted by Gary Hall, a songwriter and solo performer who's appeared monthly at the "Spider" for the past eleven years. In addition to the solo gigs, Gary's an experienced host of open mics and songwriters' events. For the past eight years, he's been hosting the popular Wednesday night open mic at BW3 North in Columbus.
Located in Cleveland's University Circle area, the Barking Spider has a thirteen year tradition of supporting and encouraging original music. Currently, the "Spider" presents live music seven nights a week (plus an afternoon show on Sundays). Both touring acts and local performers are featured on a schedule that emphasizes original music and "roots" music - in a variety of styles. The Barking Spider Tavern is located at 11310 Juniper Rd. (rear) in Cleveland. Admission is free at the "Spider", but you must be 21 or over to enter. (That includes performers.) The phone number is (216) 421-9294 and the manager is Martin Juredine - the person who's largely responsible for the "Spider's" rich and varied music scene.
